Clear Night Sky

felted bag with magnetic button flap

This piece was created over quite a long period of time (picked up, put down etc.).   But I have to say that I had a fairly clear vision with this peice, unlike others I’ve done.  As I was knitting the different shades of blues I kept thinking about the night sky and how on a clear night (where there is no light pollution to dampen and fade the view) I can see forever it seems and there is a sharpness, a crispness, a deepness spread before me.  How many nights I have ignored the sky and how sad that so many people never have experienced or taken note of the night sky.  I have witnessed a clear night sky a handful of times in my life and each time I have felt renewed and filled with the mystery, hope and excitement of my childhood.  As an artist, I am inspired by such experiences!  Also, I like this analogy: When the light of the sun shows all of life’s complexities and distractions,  lose yourself in a clear night sky and see if  life seems more quiet and deep and well…clear.

To the wild wood and the downs”
