The Surface Of Planet X
This piece ended up being a super fun project! I started it last year and put it away for months because I lost direction. I got it out in January, layed the pieces out and found new inspiration. It just goes to show you that if you get “stuck” with a piece and stop making progress it’s good to put it away for a while, get some distance and then come back to it. It may end up being different but it will be better than forcing an idea you’ve lost interest in.
So this piece was created using a combination of felting methods. I made squares using a wet felting method then cut them out and puzzled them together. I hand stitched the pieces together. Some of the features were made by using felting needles. I also felted in rocks, Pennines, fabric, pottery and marbles into the roving to form “inclusions” in the felt because when you cut into the finished felt there is a pocket or an interesting object inside. Very fun! š
Love it!
